Hotel Spa & Med Spa, Tacoma WA (2009)
10,000 sq ft. / historic former fire station in an urban center
Visionary owners wanted a memorable theme to captivate hotel guests’ attention, but lacked enough floor space to accommodate their wish list. IDC's value engineering team solved the issue by lowering the floor a foot, which expanded the ceiling space to allow a mezzanine level for the medspa.
Theme development: Drawing upon the architecture of Brittany seaside villages, IDC created a European village within a courtyard. A Chihuly sculpture cascades through the center reception area. A playful row of faux village ‘buildings’ house the service areas. Guests are welcomed into a cobblestone street lit by streetlamps, following signs to the medspa mezzanine.
Features:
Men’s tonsorial: old-fashioned barber parlor. Ladies' finishing salon
Signature Service: Razoul. Guests enjoy soothing mud pampering in a specially designed and tiled wet room.
VIP Couple’s Suites: side-by-side treatment beds, private bath, fireplace and a double tub.
“If you’re developing a day, medical or destination spa, don’t copy or compete with others in your market. Instead, take the lead with originality and marketing, so you’re in a league of your own.” - Michael Effler, Founder & Managing Director, International Design Concepts
